Boeing’s ‘Cuddle Seat’ tackles the economy snooze

A new Boeing patent promises a better sleep situation for economy passengers.

For those who can’t afford the lie-flat seats in business or first, sleep is often an issue. It’s not easy finding a position in which you can lean or curl or contort into a working sleep position.

Boeing’s idea reverses the concept, and provides a way for passengers to lean forward onto a cushion, with a pillow for the face. The device is strapped to the seatback, and the pillow has an opening for the face (similar to what you find on a massage chair). You can see MORE on jaunted.com, or on the video below.

I can think up a few problems but maybe the’ve factored for those. it looks like, instead of getting your knees hit by a reclining seat, it could be your face. And I could imagine getting all twisted up in the straps by the time I wake up.

Not sure how comfortable it would be, but I’d be willing to give it a try.

Might especially be good for people who usually sleep on their stomach.

I just love an air travel video that presumes passengers in economy have so much leg room.

Maybe – with that much leg room – reclining the backs of our current seats wouldn’t be such a disaster.

Resting your head on the guy sitting behind you !
