The Airlander 10 is 302 feet long and was designed by British Hybrid Air Vehicles(HAV) for the U.S. military. An even bigger Airlander 50 is in prototype. It combines the characteristics of fixed wing aircrafts, helicopters and balloons. The Airlander can land on water, sand, snow and ice.
The military project was scrapped because of budget cuts and HAV bought the project back. It has had recent grants from the EU, the UK and even has had a £250,000 investment from Iron Maiden frontman, Bruce Dickinson. HAV is trying to get more investments on Crowdcube. A maiden voyage of a luxury passenger version of Airlander is already being promoted for next year.
