American Airlines and Qantas, not only Oneworld partners, but linked in a joint operation and revenue-sharing agreement, are added two more flights to the mix. Starting in December, American will operate a daily non-stop between LAX and Sydney, while Qantas will add a flight between San Francisco and Sydney.
The San Francisco flight, using a 747 with interiors modeled on Qantas’ A380, will operate on “peak days” at first, and be up to 6 flights a week by January 16. The American flight will use a three-class 777-300ER.
The new flights will improve connections to cities in both the U.S. and Australia. The joint venture also has plans to serve areas neither airline serves now, possibly including New Zealand.
