Milan’s cathedral suffered some damage early Monday morning when a small drone, equipped with a camera, crashed into a construction cable on the cathedral roof, narrowly missing the gold statue of the Madonna on the church’s tallest spire.

The drone, similar to the ones that have become popular with hobbyists and have caused issues near airports, was being flown by three Korean visitors, in Milan for Expo Milan. They told police they were in town to give a presentation at the Korean pavilion of the fair.

The drone was first noticed by staff members of Veneranda Fabbrica, the organization the maintains and renovates the cathedral. They called police, who found the men in the square with a remote control. They explained that they meant no harm, and only wanted pictures up close. However, at that point, they lost control of the drone and it hit the cable.

What happens next is unclear; police are trying to determine what, if any, laws were violated. For MORE detail, check theLocal.it
