The big airshows, and Paris is one of the biggest, are huge sales fares for the big manufacturers and usually feature announcements of new orders and “show-off” moments for new or improved planes.
So the video above should be no surprise as Boeing puts its newest 787, the 787-9, through its paces over Paris’s historic Le Bourget airport (yes, that’s the one where Lindbergh landed.) Take a close look at the take-off—the plane goes up rapidly in a near-vertical high-speed take-off.
Truth is, you’d never want to do that in passenger service, partly because taking off that way is a tremendous fuel-burner, and partly because your passengers might never want to fly with you again…
