I like that the ratings were not based on general popularity. I agree with some, not with others, but I not saying until other comment with their thoughts about the list.

I didn’t feel the snark on this one. I liked that it wasn’t just what was popular or trendy. Spain being number one is a great choice, although I would have chosen Italy. Rankings can be fun, and can start (hopefully) some dialog.
I found it entertaining reading, but as with all lists like this, not very helpful. It ‘s one of the reasons you’ll never find me writing a blog about my “10 best of” lists.
Malta ranks above Portugal? And I’m with Jonathan. Italy is my favorite destination in Europe.
Well, if anyone looking for a place to go tried to use that list, I think they’d be disappointed. It’s mostly a compilation of sophomore snark and one-liners…not to mention one-sided, treating Austria as if it were nothing but a place to ski, for example.
The broader problem, I think, is the idea that everything can, or should be, ranked. I’d much rather have a list of “Ten restaurants I enjoyed” than one of the “Ten best restaurants in the world.”
