One of the most popular travel activities in the United States is to go on a road trip. It makes economic sense for American residents to pack up their cars, load the kids and head off to a national park or to visit family. But the appeal of driving the great roads of the USA has not been lost on visitors, who rent cars and motorcycles and hit the wide open road. The scenery is hard to beat!
But where to go? Certain iconic trips are well known. Historic Route 66 is popular with many visitors, but there are dozens of great drives. Do you have a favorite? I think my favorite drive is the Going to the Sun Highway in Glacier National Park, Montana.
WalletHub ranked the most popular destinations for road travel, and the top five states are 1) Oregon, 2) Nevada, 3) Minnesota, 4) Washington, 5) Ohio. Surprisingly California only ranked 20th, mostly because of road and safety conditions.
