Being born on New Years’ Day is always something special—just check out the news in nearly every city—but the buzz is usually about a cute new little human. But Berlin’s news this year is a zoo resident, a 100-kilogram baby elephant.
Mother and daughter are doing well, thank you, at the East Berlin Tierpark, where the baby was born in an unassisted delivery. She’s said to be nursing well, and zookeepers say “The little elephant girl is very curious and has already made her first contacts with her two older siblings.”
She may have to wait quite a while to meet the rest of her family; her father was sent to the Prague zoo in 2014. For more details and pictures from TheLocal.de, click HERE
