Among the surest early signs of spring is the emergence and flowering of crocuses. I find them warm and welcoming flowers, a marker of the changing seasons and warmer days ahead!
These are wild prairie crocuses, photographed in Fish Creek Provincial Park, about a 5 minute walk from my home in Calgary….
These crocuses were photographed on the lawn of Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello in Virginia. Perhaps these plants descended from bulbs which were actually planted by the great man himself, as Jefferson was an avid gardener….
Lastly, from Jefferson’s neighbor, James Madison, these crocuses were in bloom at Ash Lawn-Highland….
That special moment when the crocuses and daffodils first appear is an incredible mood-changer…and even bad weather later can’t spoil it. Thanks for the reminder!
