Norway’s Trollstegen Highway has begun its summer season with some sections opening, while others are still not able to open because of avalanche threats.
The route, considered both one of the most beautiful and one of the most dangerous in Europe, runs for 106 km through mountain areas and includes both a ferry across a fjord and 11 hairpin turns like the one above.
A month ago, nearly the whole route was still under snow. In the area not yet open, there is a large snow mass that could come down in an avalanche; highway officials are waiting for it either to come down, or to stabilize, before they open the rest of the road.
