Bangkok, Thailand has moved to the top of the list of world travel destinations, tipping London into the #2 spot, followed by Paris, Dubai and New York.
Bangkok’s rise reflects a continuing growth in tourism, including continued growth from outside Asia. The growth does not seem to have been slowed by terror bombings earlier this year, or by the city’s renowned pollution.
Of course, for all these cities, the numbers include travelers for whom they are gateways. In Bangkok’s case, many of those passing through are headed for resort areas. In Dubai’s case, many may be headed for different places altogether, and just be changing planes at Emirates’ big hub.
