When you think of a country whose culture is associated with wine,
Switzerland’s not the one that comes up, right? But a new survey of wine consumption and spending around the world has put them at the top for spending about $599 per person.
And lest you think that’s only because Swiss wine prices are a bit higher than other European countries, it is also the 6th biggest per capita consumer of wine in the world, at about 40 liters yearly per person.
France, the country most people associate with wine-drinking placed fourth, with tiny Andorra taking world first at 46 liters. Surprisingly, other European wine-producers placed much lower. Italy was 10th, followed by Germany at 16th and Spain at 30th.
