Valentine’s Day didn’t used to be a big travel day, but romantic dinners and corny cards have started given way to romantic getaways. And as you’d suspect, someone’s keeping count.
In this case, the bean (or is it heart?) counters were the folks at Allianz Global Assistance, the big travel insurance provider. Allianz reviewed 18,000 trips for two from U.S. airports by its customers, starting between Feb. 10 and Feb. 12.
The top domestic destination was New York; this is adults-only, so Orlando didn’t even make the Top 10. Internationally, Cancun took tops, followed by 7 other beach-and-sun destinations, with Montreal and Toronto tossed in for the cold-lovers.
The big surprise on the international list was one that hasn’t figured there at all in the past: Havana. Despite slow airline business to the rest of the island, demand for Cuba has heated up, and Havana is at the head of the list.
