An amusement park with a Viking theme hopes to draw Viking enthusiasts as well as roller-coaster and ride enthusiasts when it opens in Hordaland, in Western Norway. Developers have secured the land; now they need the money to complete the project.
To be called Thors Rike (Thor’s Kingdom), the park is seen as ‘infotainment’ by the developers. According to the head of Vikingland, the company planning the park, “There is much talk of rollercoasters and rides, but Viking experiences and a Viking ship will also be built. The aim is to take visitors a thousand years back in time while retaining the theme park aspect.”
The project was originally proposed in 2014, but with the world drop in oil prices and Norway’s dependence on its oil revenues, financing became harder. However, the site has now been secured, and the company hopes to have enough funding (about $23.5 million) to begin construction this summer.
