The African Penguin & Seabird Sanctuary, based in Gansbaai, South Africa, has a two-fold mission: to provide a sanctuary for injured, diseased or distressed birds to be treated and rehabilitated, and to help create awareness of the perils marine birds face.
Visitors are able to watch a film explaining the center’s operation and goals as well as see birds being rehabilitated through a glass wall.
There is no admission fee, but the center does have a gift shop. Purchases help finance operations.
