Oct. 25, 2017: Harvard Square, Cambridge

While in Boston last month I was able to check out Harvard Square one afternoon after work.  Located in Cambridge, MA, Harvard Square is actually a triangular plaza at the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue, Brattle Street, and John F. Kennedy Street. The term “Harvard Square” is also used to delineate the business district and Harvard University surrounding that intersection, which is the historic center of Cambridge.

Harvard Square 2Known locally as the Square, it functions as a commercial center for Harvard students, as well as residents of western Cambridge and the inner western and northern suburbs of Boston. However, the name “Harvard Square” can also refer to the entire neighborhood surrounding this intersection for several blocks in each direction. The nearby Cambridge Common has become a park area with a playground, baseball field, and a number of monuments, several relating to the Revolutionary War.

Harvard Square 3Here are a few pictures I took while walking around and doing a little shopping at the “Square.”  I enjoyed checking out the Out of Town News, and strolling through Coop Book Store and the Curious George store. Note of interest, apparently it is the only one in the world. Hope you enjoy these pictures from my quick visit.
