Notre-Dame Basilica is a Montreal landmark. Its size, Gothic Revival style and an interior inspired by Sainte-Chapelle in Paris, is really impressive.
The church has been a historic cultural and religious focal point for Montreal. Among the historic events have been a visit by Pope John Paul II, the funeral of Pierre-Elliott Trudeau and the wedding of Celine Dion. Notre-Dame also has a wide range of musical performances.
Notre-Dame Church was raised to the status of basilica by Pope John Paul II on April 21, 1982 and was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1989.
