There goes the neighborhood! That may have been the thought of Lady Maya, a 27-year-old bald eagle formerly in residence at the Beekse Bergen safari park in the Netherlands. She appears to have left home after a conflict with a gang of gulls.
Park officials are hopeful their star performer will return on her own, although they have alerted authorities and public to keep an eye out for her. They’re not worried about her survival, though: As a top predator, she’s perfectly capable of feeding herself on pigeons and rabbits.
The parks birds of prey are not caged; like the eagle, they can leave, but seldom do so because they become attached to their keepers.
