Dutch bike lock promises 48-hour return

The Netherlands is famously a nation of bike-riders and bikes—and, increasingly, bike thefts, especially as e-bikes grow in popularity. Now there’s a plan to thwart thieves, or at least compensate victims.

ANWB, the Dutch equivalent of the U.S. AAA, is offering its bike-owner members an insurance policy that includes gluing a tiny hidden transmitter to the bike; in case of theft, it’s activated like a LoJack. ANWB guarantees the bike will be found and returned within 48 hours or replaced.

Oh, and yes: If you’re an ANWB member, and you have a flat bike tire, you can call for roadside service. Just like with a car.
