Nearly 42 million Americans are expected to travel over the Memorial Day weekend, most of them by car, and most of them on the road, right in front of you, keeping you from getting to your long-weekend break.
AAA predicts that the highest gas prices since 2014 will not keep the crowds off the road, predicting a 5% increase in the number traveling, up to a near-record number. 36.6 million will be on the road, with 3.1 million flying (up 6.8%) and a 2.4% increase in travel by train, bus and cruise ship.
Inrix, a company that analyzes traffic data, ranks the U.S. as the most-congested country in the world for auto traffic, and predicts the worst days will by Thursday and Friday, May 24 and 25, when commuters and vacationers will be out in force. Here’s a table of how bad that will be:
