Beijing’s Temple of Heaven, Tiantan, one of the city’s biggest attractions and a UNESCO World Heritage site is opening a larger part of the ancient temple complex to visitors, adding 2.24 hectares (about 5.5 acres).
The work includes rebuilding portions of the surrounding walls to restore historic features of Tiantan. The temple district covers 273 hectares, of which 72 are occupied by residences and various facilities. Nineteen households and other facilities will be relocated outside the historic walls.
When complete, the plan will have added 20,000 square meters of green areas and add a circular visitor path around the temple itself, as well as restoring the ancient imperial path as a green area.
