This allows a 360 ° knowledge of the country and a pleasant stay in an environment that is still able to make you feel at home. Are you ready to know my Shannon’s travel itinerary? Let’s do this!
Road tripping is a must
Hiring a car at Shannon Airport is your number one priority to move quickly and in an effective way. We only had 4 days so we had to make the most of my time in Shannon and I definitely wanted to explore everything without paying too much! Holidayautos.com was an amazing ally to make this travel come true as I customized everything comparing the best options for me and saving so much money. The site is easy to use and absolutely convenient.
Day 1
Limerick is a beautiful Georgian town ideal for exploring the Shannon region. Inside the city is the King John’s Castle of 1200, with beautiful ramparts and interesting archaeological and historical exhibitions. Visit the nearby Hunt Museum, which houses a large private collection of art and antiquities.
… Next stop Adare, the most picturesque village in Ireland, to visit the interesting Adare Heritage Center and the Foynes Flying Boat Museum.
Day 2
We explored County Clare and its castles where we traced their first Celtic origins to Craggaunowen, then we head (not to be missed) to the Bunratty Castle and Folk Park, 15th-century revamped castle surrounded by the Folk Park. Departure for the coast of Clare passing through the “market town” of Ennis; visit to the Riches of Clare, visit of the exhibition at the Clare Museum. For those wishing to find a shortcut to County Kerry, it is possible to take the ferry that crosses the entire Shannon estuary from Tarbert near the quiet “Heritage” town of Kilrush.
Day 3
Today’s itinerary covers the beautiful region around Lough Derg, the largest lake on the River Shannon. A full afternoon is worth dedicating it to the “Heritage” town of Birr, a few kilometers east of Lough Derg we find the Birr Castle Demesne which contains not only the castle and its award-winning garden, but also Ireland’s Historic Science Center and the famous Great Telescope.
Return to Limerick via the “Heritage” city of Roscrea where we find the ruins of the St. Cronan’s monastery and the restored castle of the 13th century.
Day 4
This day was my fav! We had a day tour of Ireland from Golden Vale to Cashel, the former capital of Munster, passing through Kilmallock Walled Town, whose remains date back to the 13th century, the market town of Malva, and Cahir with its beautiful medieval castle (Location of the movie Excalibur ). Visit Cashel Historical Heritage with its famous Fortress and the Bru Boru Cultural Center at its feet, dedicated to the celebration of music, song and Irish dance. Lovely experience!
All that in 4 days ! Amazing itinerary too. Well worth copying.
