A Swiss canton looking for more visitors is using high-tech signs to get some attention. The big signs, welcoming visitors to Schwyz, have the same image but different appearance, depending on when you see them.
The surfaces of the 20 sets of signs are partly reflective, so that a new second image appears when lit by headlights at night. The daylight image is still on the sign, but not seen because the coating reflects the light.
“The new motorway signs are a great showcase for the region’s tourist attractions,” said cantonal councillor Andreas Barraud in a statement issued by the canton. Officials expect the signs to get about 30 million views a year.
