Delta, which has had shifting policies on pet transportation, has now taken a new tack and signed up with a start-up partner to take care of Fido’s travels.
Care-Pod, based in Singapore and using custom-designed German-made ‘travel pods’ will help Delta with monitoring and logistics software, and will also provide up-to-the-minute updates to pet-owners.
Delta stopped taking pets as checked baggage in 2016, after several pets died in checked carriers. Pets traveling in carry-ons were shipped with fees ranging from just under $200 on up to nearly $1500; those fees may have helped fuel a wave of fake ‘comfort animal’ claims.
