Dubai has a lot of amazing and unusual sights, including the world’s tallest building, so it shouldn’t be surprising that it now has the world’s first sail-through supermarket. Or, if you prefer, jet-ski through supermarket.
It’s a branch of France’s Carrefour store chain, operated by Majid Al Futtaim, a Middle East retail and leisure company, using a specially-built boat called Aqua Pod, and stocks about 300 items including snacks, drinks, sunscreen and over-the-counter drugs.
Sailboats can use the sail-through window, while small watercraft pull up to an outside window to get their goods. No boat? Boat too big to come close? No problem—the shop has its own small boat to make deliveries within 45 minutes.
