U by Uniworld takes a detour

U by Uniworld, the marketing brand created by Uniworld to lure millenials onto Europe’s river cruises has taken a U-turn from France’s Seine River and is moving its Seine boat to Central Europe.

The line launched last year, with heavy publicity to attract 18-35 year-olds to the cruise market, with onboard activities like sunrise yoga, barbecues and disco parties. Although it ended up having to broaden the age group, one of its boats, The A, had a successful season on the Rhine, Main and Danube.

The B, based in Paris, did less well, and will now by moved east to join its sister ship, skipping the 2019 season. Uniworld officials suggested that part of the reason for the different results is that younger customers like the different city every night mode of the Central European routes.
