Westjet 787s open up new routes

Westjet, the Canadian discount airline that’s been dreaming big for a while now has the Dreamliners to match, with the first of ten rolling off the Boeing assembly line this week and entering service soon.

With the exception of a handful of ex-Qantas 767s, Westjet has been an all 737 airline, flying a fairly dense network of flights domestically and to the U.S. and the Caribbean, but Europe, and then possibly Asia, has been on its mind for a while; hence the 767s, which will soon retire.

The 787s, in a three-class configuration unusual for a discounter, will fly their first routes out of Westjet’s home town, Calgary. Service to London Gatwick starts April 28, to Paris on May 17 and to Dublin June 1.
