China and the UN Development Program are collaborating on a five-year plan to build a resort town that will focus on health and wellness tourism, and will be environmentally sustainable.
The project’s plan includes developing a sanatorium-like town that will use environmentally friendly agricultural practices and ecologically sound energy supply, waste management and water distribution systems while offering people the most up-to-date healthcare services.
The investment, shared between China and UNDP will be about $450 million, and is intended as a demonstration project that could be a model for other developments around the world, especially with the ‘graying’ of population in China and elsewhere.
