A Dutch man, Wiebe Wakker, has spent the past three years driving a VW Golf converted to electricity across 33 countries and over 89,000 km to prove that electric cars are practical for Australia.
The past seven months have been spent on a journey around Australia from Darwin to Perth, to Newcastle, Queensland and back to Adelaide. He’s still on the road, headed for Melbourne and Sydney in his converted 2009 model.
He recently told the Guardian (UK)’s Australia reporters that “I expected that by this time I would be exhausted and starving but I’m still having a lot of fun. I’m actually a little bit sad that I’m coming to the end of the journey.”
