Lonely Planet, whose guidebooks and websites are widely followed, thinks we shouldn’t all necessarily be headed for Europe’s most popular places this summer. Its annual Top Ten list is full of outliers from the usual lists.
Topping the list are the High Tatras in Slovakia; the mountains also extend into neighboring Poland. Others at the top of the list include Iceland’s new Arctic Way, the Balkans and Shetland. Some large cities still make the list, including Madrid and Lyon.
Here’s the list:
- High Tatras, Slovakia
- Madrid, Spain
- The Arctic Coast Way, Iceland
- Hercegovina, Bosnia & Hercegovina
- Bari, Italy
- Shetland, Scotland
- Lyon, France
- Liechtenstein
- Vevey, Switzerland
- Istria, Croatia
