When Disneyland opened its new Star Wars world, Galaxy’s Edge, last month, it ramped up a tightly-controlled reservation system, put time limits on visitors and got ready to use virtual queues to control the crowds—but publicity about the expected crowds may have helped them not happen.
The crowds have been much smaller than expected, the virtual queue has only been activated a couple of times, and time limits have been dropped. Even the queue for the park’s only ride, the Millenium Falcon Smugglers Run, has been mostly under an hour, often half that.
Another factor, besides fear of crowds, may be that some visitors are waiting for later in the year when a second ride and more of the Star Wars-themed area opens. A Florida version of the park, at Walt Disney World in Orlando, will open later this year.
