If you’re one of those solo flyers who is sometimes forced to drag the carry-on along on a coffee run or wonder who’s watching your stuff while you head for the lav, Dublin Airport is thinking about you.
The airport is testing two new options for solo travelers who want a secure private space, either special seats, or a private pod. It’s only a few-weeks test, but if successful more may be rolled out, for a fee.
One “MySpot” option is a pod with seating and storage space, charging facilities, and service by a MySpot staff member, who will even fetch tea or coffee. That version, if successful, will rent for €10, while the other, unenclosed version, will go for €5, and will have similar service and facilities. For now, there’s only one of each, but a successful trial could result in banks of them.
The airport’s managing director told the Irish Independent that “We conduct regular surveys throughout the year and we know that more than 56pc of our passengers travel alone. Solo passengers typically grab a drink and a sandwich and proceed directly to their boarding gate. This group finds it challenging carrying hand luggage and other items such as tea or coffee when travelling alone.”
