If it seems as if Elon Musk has his finger in everything, it’s probably because it’s almost so. Last week in Las Vegas, two of his projects passed a joint milestone, with completion by his Boring Company of a first tunnel that will feature under-ground rides in specially-modified Tesla cars.
The unusual subway will link different parts of the Las Vegas Convention Center, cutting the end-to-end walk time from 15 minutes to one, with passengers zipping in 16-passenger Teslas at 155 mph. It’s not quite a hyperloop (another Musk project) but it will certainly be the fastest people-mover around.
A second, parallel tunnel is now being bored, and service is expected to start within the next year. Musk projects that the system will eventually be extended to serve most of Las Vegas hotel districts and the airport.
