Moldova, not one of the countries that comes first to mind as a wine producer, wants to change that and draw attention to its ancient and modern wine tradtions.
The country’s tourism authorities have announced the creation of three wine routes, each starting from the capital city of Chişinău, and each including not only vineyards and vintners, but also castless, nature reserves and more.
Among the country’s wine surprises is that it is one of the world’s top 20 producers, and has the highest density of vineyards to total area of any country. Wine has been produced in the country, which is between Romania and Ukraine, for over 5,000 years.
