Florida’s recent surge of Covid-19 cases has thrown another monkey wrench into the holiday plans of thousands of Brits, as Tui, the UK’s biggest holiday package company, has responded by cancelling all booked Florida holidays for at least the next five months.
Tui has already drawn fire from customers upset at its month-by-month cancellations of packages for trips to European sun spots during the months it was unclear whether Spain, Portugal, Greece and others would be open to visitors. The Florida market is also big one in the UK, with a usual year seeing over a million British visitors.
Tui’s statement said “The decision has been made following new health and safety measures implemented at Walt Disney World to ensure the safety of its guests. “These changes would significantly impact the holiday experience for many TUI customers who plan their magical and often once-in-a-lifetime Florida holiday.”
Under British Package Travel Regulations, cancelled vacationers are entitled to a full refund within two weeks, but the company is trying to avert a big cash flow by offering incentives to customers who either postpone their trip to next year, or use their payment this year for a trip to somewhere else.
