A naturist resort on France’s Mediterranean coast that bills itself as a ‘village for naturists and libertines’ has been ordered to mask up after tests showed that people who had visited the resort had a 30% Covid-19 infection rate.
The rate among visitors to Village Cap d’Agde, more than four times the rate for others in the same area, brought attention from the Occitanie regional health authority, which issued the order for masks and social distancing. It also closed down the village’s night clubs, which had had an exception granted.
The health director general, Pierre Ricordeau, said he doubted the nudists had been practicing social distancing, and remakred “There are infections everywhere, including among people who are not libertines. The message is the same for everyone: wear a mask, wash your hands and practice social distancing, whether you are a libertine or not a libertine.”
