Travel moves the economy, says U.S. Travel, and it’s calling for Federal tax credits to get travelers moving again.
The CEO of U.S. Travel, which represents most sectors of the travel industry, told a virtual press conference that “It used to be said, ‘As goes General Motors goes the U.S. economy,’ As we’ve seen in the last nine months, as goes travel goes the U.S. economy. When people are not moving, commerce is not moving.”
CEO Roger Dow says that vaccination is changing the picture, but believes that people will need a push to get going, and wants the government to give credits for individual and group travel. So far, government aid for travel has been focused on keeping airlines and other businesses open, but Dow’s proposal would direct funds to consumers. No comment yet from the White House.
