Berlin transit operator: “Eat Your Ticket”

Berlin’s public transit operator BVG is telling passengers who buy a special unlimited day ticket to chew it and swallow it at the end of the day. The €8.80 ticket is printed on edible paper infused with “no more than three drops” of hemp oil, which the company says is “said to have a calming effect.”

There’s no word on exactly what’s so stressing about Berlin’s buses and trains to make medication necessary, but BVG adds that “Hemp oil is 100 percent vegetarian and also makes an excellent salad dressing.” It also suggested that the tickets go will with Berlin’s famous Döner kebabs.

It’s not BVG’s first big attention-getter, by the way. In 2018, they sold a special limited-edition line of Adidas sneakers covered with a design showing the seatcovers of the city’s subway cars and with an unlimited annual pass embedded in the shoes.
