Airport announcement voices sometimes sound all the same, though some airports have varied that by using celebrity voice-overs or local musicians to make the calls, but Minneapolis-St Paul International Airport is trying something new.
The airport sent out a ‘casting call’ to the 86,000 people who work at the airport in one capacity or another, from airline and airport employees to people who work in concessions and shops. In November, sample tapes were submitted and a panel of judges picked the ten winners for this year.
Announcements are now in use from the winners, whose full list was announced Monday. They include workers from Delta and SkyWest Airlines, Marsden Building Maintenance, airport police and more. One winner, whose voice is now issuing the reminder about liquids and gels at the TSA checkpoints, told an interviewer that “I hope my voice brings comfort. I want it to be informational, but show that we are here to help get you to your destination safely, while making it an enjoyable experience.”
