Across Belvedere Lake from the Delecorte theater, on the top of one of the highet hills in Central Park sits Belvedere Castle. The castle was built in 1867, with no doors or windows. Those were added in 1900.
The castle became the main weather station for the National Weather Service in New York City in 1919. Belvedere Castle underwent a massive renovation in 1983, and a smaller one in 2008. Today is offers wonderful views of the park, along with a visitors’ center and gift shop.
