Texas town’s park will glow in the dark

Farmer’s Branch, Texas, a suburb of Dallas, is building itself what it says is the country’s first glow-in-the-dark playground, allowing families a chance to play in the evening after the heat of the day.

The playground, with a 27-foot climbing sphere, slides, swings, an obstacle course and zip lines, covers 18,000 square feet and includes a toddler area. LED lights throughout the area provide illumination while also entertaining by light-changing and sound programs.

Joya, or Jewel, as the playground will be named, is being financed by a combination of local funds along with money from the federal American Rescue Act funds and state funds. The design and planning included rounds of focus groups with local children to help with input.
