I live in a beautiful place! This spot by the Kootenai River is about a 15-minute drive from my home. The views in these images were taken while looking east toward the Selkirk mountains. The town of Bonners Ferry is a few miles downstream from this spot.
While it appears to be very calm, the Kootenai River has a powerful current with a dangerous undertow. People frequently drown in it.
Thank you for the pictures of Northern Idaho. It reminded me of a visit there in April 6 years ago, and I was impressed by the marshland near Bonners Ferry, which is part of the floodplain of the Kootenai River. Just North of the border crossing and right beside the road, I came across this fine bald eagle, looking rather affronted at being disturbed.
Terrific photos, Roderick! Lots of eagles living around here.
I’ve seen one timber wolf near the river — the only one I’ve ever seen outside my life, with the exception of those we saw in Alaska.
