No, not the Netherlands, but Austria: only a couple of kilometres from the Hungarian border actually, close to the shores of Lake Neusiedl.
This lovely windmill is around 170 years old. There were apparently seven similar mills in this area at some point. The one in Podersdorf is the only one left.
The mill is looked after by a group of enthusiasts, who provide more details about its history and its technology on their webpage: https://www.diewindmuehle.at/ . Unfortunately, it is all in German, but Google Chrome’s translation option does a reasonable job.
Podersdorf itself does not have a lot to offer, but you can take various types of boat tours from here and a drive around the lake will take you through a number of charming villages.
We came across this nicely preserved 1960’s Mercedes 220SE in one of them.
Returning to the topic of the windmill: during the summer there are guided tours at 18:00 every day apart from Sundays. Unfortunately the timing did not fit in with our plans.
Picture perfect!
