Farmers Almanac: Best times for leaf-peeping

Not that we don’t want you to continue enjoying summer, but as that refrigerator magnet says “Dates on Calendar May be Closer than they Appear,” and the autumnal equinox is less than six weeks away, on September 23.

So, it’s time to think about cooler weather, and nature’s colorful display of leaves turning color, starting in the north, and to plan for leaf-peeping drives out into the country if you’re so inclined.

And, just in time for that, the Farmers Almanac has delivered its annual map and prediction of the best times for peak color. Vermont has the earliest date, September 24, followed on the 28th by New Hampshire, New York, Montana and, a bit surprisingly, New Mexico. The last to hit peak color will be Florida, Louisian and Texas on November 2.
