A plane for (Very) Very Important Persons

Forget first class, or Q-Suites or The Apartment. They’re only for Very Important People. Lufthansa Technik and Boeing have something different in mind for their new venture—a plane designed mainly for Middle East royal families who qualify as Very Very Important Customers.

A lounge bar is lit with accent lights, whilst ceiling lights shine from above.

The plane is based on a 777-9 sold by Boeing as a BBJ (Boeing Business Jet). Lufthansa’s subsidiary takes it from there with a design it calls CelestialSTAR that includes open spaces, overhead and recessed lights to create a calming and expansive (not to mention expensive) atmosphere on board.

The illustration above is only one of the bedrooms and sleeping spaces; the royal market apparently travels with a sizable family and entourage. Not all the rooms are as private and luxurious, but even the ‘cheap seats’ below are big and comfortable.

CelestialSTAR Business class executive suites are in a 1-2 layout aboard the aircraft

Boeing’s Business Jet boss says “The thoughtful design of the BBJ 777-9 interior created by Lufthansa Technik illustrates the key features of our newest, largest and most capable BBJ on the market. The elegant interior elements maximize personal comfort for passengers onboard the BBJ 777-9, which is capable of flying over 22 hours and connecting any two cities in the world, non-stop.”

And how much does all this cost? If you have to ask the question, the answer is “you can’t afford it.”
