After staying at an Ardeche farm for a month a few years ago, we went on a tour of France, Belgium and Luxembourg by train. Avignon was the first stop and these pictures reflect the beauty of the city.
Situated in the heart of Provence, Avignon is full of history and colour and full of life. Here, you find the famous Popes’ Palace, the historic city centre and the Pont d’Avignon or Saint Bénézet Bridge, all listed as world heritage sites by UNESCO.
The Place de l’Horloge is the main square of Avignon, a bustling meeting place, bordered by cafés and restaurants and where the delightful Belle Époque carousel still turns, next to the City Hall and the Opera Theatre.
The little train pictured will also take you to the lovely Doms Garden.
