A new traffic safety campaign from a French group called Victims and Citizens aims to turn a stereotype on its head with its eye-catching slogan which attacks the idea that men are better drivers.
In fact, they group says, “A look at the data tells you that there’s no truth” to the idea, with men driving in 84% of France’s fatal road accidents and with 93% of accidents caused by drunk driving involving male drivers. France had almost 3,200 road deaths last year and appears to be headed for more this year.
The group, which assists people injured in traffic accidents and runs awareness campaigns, said it hoped to prompt a change in the, “mentality of men and therefore in their behavior.” The campaigns signs carry the tagline “Driving like a woman just means one thing, staying alive.”
