We travelers are very familiar with all of the great travel sights around the world and certainly the magnificent Angkor Wat temple is amongst the very best known. However, perhaps less appreciated is that this much photographed and visited Angkor Wat temple is only one temple (albeit the best!) in the vast Angkor Temple Complex.
Born in 1869 Edwin Lutyens was responsible for much of the architectural design and building when India was part of the British Empire in the 1920s and 1930s.
The beautiful town of Hội An, is situated on the coast of the East Sea beside the resort city of Da Nang, mid way down the eastern coast of Vietnam. It is home to approximately 120,000 inhabitants and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Amongst the most magnificent sights in Bangkok is the Wat Phra Kaew temple, or the Temple of the Jade Buddha. It is a riot of gilded and colorful figures in a very concentrated area within the grounds of the King’s Grand Palace in Bangkok.
This building, modeled down to the finest detail on a Scottish Baronial home, was completed in 1888 to serve as the Viceregal Lodge from where the whole of the enormous British Imperial Indian subcontinent was ruled during the summer months each year.
“Walking markets” have become an important feature of life in the three main islands in the Gulf of Thailand – Koh Tao, Koh Samui and Koh Phangan. Usually held in the early evenings, they come alive is a bustle of colours, music, chatter and smells.
The magnificent Travel Gumbo caters for all travelers travelling from everywhere to everywhere else, so it is in the vein of trying to attract visitors to my own country that I use this as an excuse to (request) publication of this selection of very quaint scarecrows that I recently came across in a small beautiful village.
Toiling in his tiny back street workshop in the winding back alleys of Udaipur, in Rajastan, north west India, I came across this delightful motor rewind electrician who kindly allowed me to take his photo.
