2023: A boom in airport expansion, repair

Federal funding, including funds from last year's infrastructure bill, will help fuel a construction boom this year for U.S. airports, with some major expansion and renovation projects already underway. The funds provide several billion a year for projects.

While the FAA will soon announce which airports will get how much, some projects are already underway; some of them may receive additional funding in the new round.

Among the major airports that are expanding or rebuilding are Chicago O'Hare with a $7.1 billion rebuilding plan; Seattle-Tacoma which is building more gates and renovating space and New York's JFK, which is already at work on a major renovation and terminal replacement project.

Smaller airports are also planning work, including Providence, Santa Fe and Des Moines, Iowa and Sacramento.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
