A retired Boeing 747-400 is being installed as the centerpiece of a multi-use residential and commercial complex in downtown Seattle.
The fuselage of the jumbo jet will be suspended between the two residential towers in the complex, with the wings shortened to fit. The developer, Westbank, will use the interior as its Seattle company offices. Other parts of the interior will be a public exhibit space, and will also serve as the entrance to a Live Nation music venue that's part of the development.
The plane is now being disassembled at the desert airplane graveyard in Victorville, California for shipment to Seattle and is expected to be installed before the end of the year. The plane, built in 1990, spent its career at United Airlines.
